Scenic Sunday # 108 : Vicente de Lara Park Grounds (2 of 5)

Scenic Sunday

Salakot Arch
Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental, Philippines

Traveling will never be complete with out checking out the public parks where locals converge. for the next five (5) weeks, starting 01st of August 2010, ill be featuring the grounds of Vicente de Lara Park.

Vicente de Lara is the former governor of the province. This was park was formerly called Gen. Douglas MacArthur Park. People said that when Gen Douglas Mac Arthur left Corregidor Island (in the province of Cavite), he landed in Cagayan de Oro en-route to Australia.

Local folks go here for a game of Badminton or to jog or just to meet. Expos and trade fairs are also held here. This park as of this writing is still under renovation. that is why every time I pay a visit a new attraction amazes me.

The second scene I want to share to you is this photo, the this Salakot Arch.

Honestly, I don't know what do local folks call this feature. I just called it Salakot which is the Filipino term for a native hat. In some events, this arch is serves as a events' stage or VIP grandstand. on times that there's no events, people make use of it as a shade for meetings. every morning near to this arch is where people do their jogging, aerobic workouts or a game of badminton.

That looks like it would be a great place to go and sit in the shade on a hot tropical day.
