Food Trip # 104 : 2nd visit @ Cecil's (4 of 4)

Moist Chocolate Cake

I had a sweet dinner date with my sweet GF and the best way to conclude it is to have a moist choco cake.

while we are eating - sharing is the best word to describe it - this cute cake, GF asked me to leave some room for after this date we will meet her best friends in a famous bakeshop that serves gelato.

HAPPY NEW YEAR once again to all of you.

Background of the Story:
When i first came to Cagayan de Oro, one of my agenda was to meet myGF's beloved friends in work and in our community (CFC Singles for Christ). It was August 2009 when i met her friends at work. a year later, i will meet them up once again. GF and her friends agreed to meet up at eight in the evening. thats why we left her home late, about five in the afternoon then strolled in Divisoria Night Cafe. Then we headed at Cecil's to have dinner so that when we met her - our should say - friends, it will be dessert time.

The first visit at Cecil's was last May of this year. its nearly infront of Ateneo de Cagayan - Xavier University. but this time, for this series, it would be on the different branch, the one beside Ateneo.

Food Trip # 103 : 2nd visit @ Cecil's (3 of 4)

Bakareta

Cecil's dont have a menu for cooked viands. youl just look and chose on the counter. when i first seen this dish on the chaffing dish, i first though of "caldereta" because of the ingredients, but its yellow colored and not the hint of red from the tomato sauce so i guess its curry. when my GF pointed this as her order, the staff asked to confirm our order "bakareta sir?"

"bakareta"? hmm? why they called it bakareta? its was ages ago when the last time i heard the term "bakareta". i guess, they call it "bakareta" to simply denote that the meat used is beef not goat. if you know why its called bakareta, pls add the story in your comment. thanx

Sinigang na Isda

This is what I had. I forgot what kind of fish was that. I think its Tanigue but im not really sure. I chosed this because the place has less offering that night, probably we came in late thus we have less choices.

Verdict? i felt im home. it taste like home cooking. nothing special but not regular eighter.

Batchoy

"Don't forget the soup" myGF reminded me when we are choosing what to have for dinner. This Batchoy is what i have in mind not only for its rich soup but also to a compare and contrast the batchoy i tasted before this.

Verdict? its good. but it did not beat the original.

Empanada

Me and girlfriend left their house without having a snack. When we reached Ateneo de Cagayan she told me that she wanted to eat at Cecil’s and she wanted me to taste the cassava cake which she always order. For this series, I'll feature all we tried and tasted.

What I do like in Empanadas is its filling. This bread is somehow, a meal of its own: its bread is the carbo; and the filling is the viand. I can say that this Empanada of Cecil's although small, it has a big yummy taste. Its crunchy and it doesn't have that oily taste.

Cassava Cake

Me and girlfriend left their house without having a snack. When we reached Ateneo de Cagayan she told me that she wanted to eat at Cecil’s and she wanted me to taste the cassava cake which she always order. For this series, I'll feature all we tried and tasted.

I admit, I'm not into cassava cake. BUT this cassava cake is far better than the first I tasted. Before, all cassava cakes I tried had this strings or threads which is I know, is a part of cassava. This cake of Cecil's has less of that thus this makes it "melt-in-your-mouth" feel.

Fresh Lumpia

Me and girlfriend left their house without having a snack. When we reached Ateneo de Cagayan she told me that she wanted to eat at Cecil’s and she wanted me to taste the cassava cake which she always order. For this series, ill feature all we tried and tasted.

First stop, this fresh lumpia. Days ago before this, I had this craving of eating some if not all home-grown fresh lumpia. For this trip, this would be the fourth and the last fresh lumpia that I had. As of this writing, I cant decide which one is good, better, best or worst. I just love fresh lumpia.
