Sinigang na Tokwa
Bean Curd Sour Stew

Lenten season is a time for abstaining from meat every friday (starting Ash Wednesday until Easter Sunday). Luckily, im been lessening from meat and its fats for about a year now due to health risk thus this little sacrifice is no longer a burden to me. and one of my few experiments is this one, tokwa (bean curd) in sinigang soup. no need to fry. hmmm, parang i miss the miso soup of tokyo-tokyo :D

ive been eating a lot of tokwa since i stated eating tokwa't baboy during my high school days. and sumtimes towat't baboy is a comfort food for me. but now im abstaining from meats & fats boiling and stewing towka is part of the plan.

Litratong Pinoy # 51 : Sapatos (shoes)

Litratong Pinoy # 50 : Paboritong Alahas (Favorite Jewelry)

La.Pi.S # 40: my KITCHEN

button6

My (dream) Kitchen

I really love to have a kitchen similar to this one featured. That is the kitchen of the rest house which we stayed in for 2 nights in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental. that rest house is in the middle of a hilly fields and it is very peaceful. The only noise you can hear are the dogs, cows and birds.

This is my dream kitchen: "L" shape counter and a bar; cabinets on top; ventilated; and well lighted.

The only lacking in this kitchen is the fridge (but it has a small chest freezer) and a stove. Probably because this house is not used or inhabited at all times. Only for those some occasions and they just bring the lacking/needed appliances. Just like us, we used the place for us to sleep in for 2 nights and our host just brought cooked breakfast and treat us out for lunch and dinner.

Someday Jay, Someday. Sweet life starts at sweet dreams :D

Pang porma(l)

La.Pi.S # 39: BREADy or not

My beloved Pastel

The first time i tasted this heavenly Pastel was on 17 of February 2008 at Clark Field, Pampanga. it was given to me by my friend - and now my girlfriend - as a pasalubong from her home Cagayan de Oro City when we met there. from that instant i tasted it, i fallen in love to it, most specially to the one who gave it, thoughfulness makes my heart melt and thats one of the reason why i fell inlove to her and courted her.

Pastel is a product of Camiguin Province, in its capital town Mambajao. it comes on 2 sized boxes: 6pieces (as featured); and a 1 doz piece box. each piece sell about 10 pesos so a box of 6 cost 60 pesos and a box of 12 cost 120pesos. some merchants add some mark-up so it will have an additional of 5 to 20 pesos per box.

It is a bun - yes similar to a dinner roll - and filled with yummy yema inside. ohhh so yummy. heaven melts in your mouth goodness :D the yema filling is standard and if you want to request for another filling, it is made to order a week before pick-up time. other filling includes: guava, pineapple, strawberry, chocolate and more, just say it in advance so that they can make your request. I just dont know their minimum order.

after that, she gave me again this year last 20th of February as a gift and pasalubong narin. during our conference her friend asked my share of rosquillos and i happily gave it to her since i dont like it. and she asked me why and my girlfriend said to my rescue "he only eats pastel" :D ohh, i love you honey :D :x :*

My sister Sugarplumfairy_lyn has a friend in an inter island vessel whom she met during her OJT on that same vessel. she asked that friend to buy for her pastel since she too loves it. upon reaching home, she teased me by showing her 2 1doz boxes. well sorry sister BREADy or not ill eat your pastel =))

Pinoy Street Food # 19: Saang (Conch)

As I mentioned on my past blog entry prelude to Pinoy Street Food I will make a blog entries regarding "pinoy street foods" and I will create the succeeding entries in this meme so do please visit every Friday and the Food Friday Meme.

My featured menu for today:

Saang
(steamed Conch)

While me & my sister ShutterHappy Jenn is taking a walk on Colon St in Cebu City, we found this very unique food cart. He sells shellfish which they call Saang. I never thought that this shellfish is a big hit on that street. I usually see this shellfish as a shell handicraft for home displays.

A stick cost 5 pesos but if you want to eat the meat from that shell, it would cost you much (i forgot the price, 20 pesos i think). The merchant will wack the shell with a hammer and give the meat to you with a dip of spiced vinegar. I admit i never tasted this because Im worried to have an upset tummy (i do have sometimes i eat shellfish thus i only eat shellfish at home not during travels/tour), but my sister said its so good.

wow at last, after hours in Wikipedia, i searched for it's name: it is Conch. the one who has spikes at the opening is Spider Conch

Litratong Pinoy # 48 : Bag
