Food Trip # 115 : 2nd Visit @ Panagatan Seafood Restaurant (2 of 3)

Mixed Seafood Tinola

30 August 2010

Our original plan is to go to a resort but for some instances, it did not pushed through thus we went to Panagatan.

This is our soup, it has: fish, clams, shrimps and squid. Its also has the usual tinola (other local folks call it 'tinowa') veggies like patola, lemongrass and malungay.

For me, this soup is really the great way to start this feast. It did not only warmed up my tummy but also boost my appetite.

Food Trip # 113 : @ Greenwich

Pizza and Spaghetti

29 August 2010

Guess which is mine and of GF's. The one on Top - Spaghetti with a personal sized Hawaiian Pizza - or the one in the bottom - Spaghetti with a slice of family sized Hawaiian Pizza.

Its day one for pasalubong shopping. We (me and GF) went first to Vjandep store in Tiano Bros st. to place my order of pastel. then we went to Lim Ket Kai Mall to buy the other pasalubong items in the grocery. before we hit the grocery we had this snacks first. Greenwich was full which left us standing waiting for a seat. GF decided to go to the department store to buy a gift as I waited to get a seat. Finally, when I got our table and chairs i immediately texted GF to come on over. she did after few minutes then we went to the grocery then went home.

The answer: the one on top is mine and the bottom one is GF's.

Food Trip # 109 : 2nd Visit @ Sentro 1850 (2 of 2)

Grilled Swordfish Balinese

24 August 2010

This is what I had when we (me and GF) had our dinner date In Sentro 1850. This dinner date is more meaningful and romantic for it was our 2nd year as lovers and friends.

The fish is so yummy and the sauce (somewhat like peanut sauce of sate) makes it more flavorful. The fish's skin is heaven for me, for it taste like pork belly. I also like the idea of putting this dish on a wooden plate.

Trivia: The number 1850 was taken from the price of gasoline (PHP 18.5) at the time of this resto's foundation.

The serving is so big for her thus I also tasted this baby and I say "it's absolutely delicious!".

Litratong Pinoy # 130 : Sarado (close; closed)

Soon to Open

English Translation:

When a mall expands, tenants comes in, specially food joints. Many closes but surely, many new ones will take their place.

Im anticipating the opening of these two food places. many time is come there but its still closed, many times they changed their opening dates but its still closed. my excitement realy escallates.

Litratong Pinoy # 129 : Gitna (middle)

High Job

English Translation:

How does it feel to be in the middle of a building? This is the usual job of building inspectors and window cleaners. I get dizzy if im using the overpass thus i walk fast in the middle so that i wont see the bottom. How do they conquered their fear of heights?

Weekend Eating # 05 : Cranberry Blondies by "My Delectable Treats"

Last saturday (04 Dec 2010) I visited myGF's sister in Batangas for her(the sister) son's confirmation rites. After the rites, she invited me to stay in their home to spend the night for going to Manila that time will me be home so late due to heavy traffic.

I known her as a home baker as a hobby and for family occasions. Its just now that she made it into a budding business. she takes orders from her friends and from friends' friends. that night she bakes lots of these treats and pack them in boxes. while she is baking the second batch, she asked me to taste a piece. it so good. the cranberries is not sour, the pastry has the right sweetness, the walnuts gives it a complementary contrast to texture and taste. she baked the exact number of pieces and cleaned-up and call it a night off.

the next day (sunday 05 Dec 2010), she delivered it riding in her scooter and made a stop to the market. when she arrived, we ate our lunch and prepared to leave the house for they (she and her 2 kids) will escort me to the village gate and after that they will attend a Holy Mass in the next town. When we reached the village gate, they waited for me to ride my bus. while waiting she handed me a big box of these treats. It made me so excited to go home to have the treats.

Upon reaching home, i shared this to my family and i was proud to share to them that these was baked by myGF's sister. they loved it too as much as i did. Thank you so much ate Donna, your treats are definitely very delectable.

Litratong Pinoy # 128 : Bukas (open)

Pasalubong

English Translation:

"Brought Home Goodies"

When I found out that my sister will bring two boxes full of goodies from Ilo-Ilo City, i felt how hard would it be to carry those boxes. I experience that hardship too everytime i go home from Cagayan de Oro City. She has more than mine simply because its two boxes unlike mine which is in a single bag. My brought home goodies must be in a hand-carry luggage or else ill pay an excess baggage fee. from the start, my baggage weighted about 13Kgs. Thus, i thought ill come to see her in the airport and those boxes so that she wont carry those while she is still on a trip.

When I got home with those boxes, I decided that ill just wait for her so that we will open it in her presence for we are both a Filipino photographer and a blogger. However, the next day, me and mother dont have something for breakfast, since those boxes has pastries on it, i decided to open one. me and mother had butterscoth and biscocho (buttered toasted bread) for breakfast.

Strawberry Milk Bar

Have you tasted this one? Its yummy isnt it? It was one fine hot day and my GF asked me if I want to try this frozen delight. I said yes since its hot, so we went to Mom's Corner to have this treat while we are waiting for her photocopies done.

I thought that this treat can only be found in Cagayan de Oro, to my surprise, I seen it here in Manila, at Lung Center Sunday Market.

Food Trip # 77 : @ Tapsi Time

Fresh Lumpia

My GF shared to her friend that we ate Fresh Lumpia at Mom's Corner. That friend of her also shared in reply that the Fresh Lumpia of Tapsi TIme is good too. Tapsi Time has two branches in Cagayan de Oro thus she added that the one in near the provincial capitol is better than the one near in Mom's Corner.

I remembered this sharing while I left the Batchoy house in hunting for more food to blog. Thus, instead of waiting for my GF in the testing area for her to finish her examinations. I went to Tapsi Time near the provincial capitol. Good thing its just a block away.

Food Trip # 76 : @ d'Original La Paz Batchoy

Regular Batchoy

Me, GF, her parents and niece & nephew are in their car, while we are cruising down towards the city via Capistrano Street, her nephew said "diba may batchoy-an dito sa Rizal?" (There is a batchoy house here in Rizal isn’t it?) Then my girlfriend and her parents were surprised because it was long time ago, her nephew is so young at that time but he still remembers it. "There is!" said my Girlfriend as she points where it was. I then asked, "why is this placed called Rizal?" she answered me, "because, of that" pointing to another building on the next corner, its an old movie house called Rizal Theater. Then I got this very clever idea as I whispered to her "hmmm??? After I bring you to work, ill drop by on that batchoy house for breakfast". She agreed.

The next day, unexpectedly, she said that she wouldn’t go to work early, for she will take an examination together with her co-worker. So I said that I’ll still be with you, I'll bring you to that examination venue. So after I brought her to that venue, I executed my clever idea, good thing that its just on the next corner so I there I went and so does this entry.

They have three sizes: regular; special; and super. You can have it with egg or without. They also have a bakery so you can buy bread that can go with your batchoy. For this photo, I only had the regular one, which is a big mistake for a foodie blogger in me.

I want to have another bowl of super but its to costly to buy two bowls in one seating, then I remebered that there was a food place nearby as recommended by a friend for a good fresh lumpia. That lumpia will be my tomorrow’s entry (23 Oct 2010)so pls drop by again.

Food Trip # 71 : the Cakery

Moist Chocolate Cake

Me and GF and her family loves Moist Chocolate Cake thus choosing the right wedding cake for GF's parents' renewal of vows is so easy. We ordered this cake at "Burp" and when we got it, they changed their name into "Cakery". We bought it here since we got many good feedbacks and GF herself is satisfied with the taste. Even her sister and some of her friends got their wedding cakes here. To add more convincing factor, they got the lowest price to that date.

It was the time of rotational brownouts in the city, so GF ordered this cake in full advance so that they can make some adjustments for them to meet our deadline. But sadly, GF and me are not satisfied by saying "we should had bought red ribbon instead". We did not dared to rant our dismay to the management. We just blamed the brownout and left the question "why other cakes the made was far better than this?" hanging.

This cake was made on April 2010 and her sister wedding was May 8, 2010 and the cake is sooo gooood thus the question really hangs.Good thing it was good, if not, this rant manages its way to the management.

Food Trip # 67 : @ Dear Manok

Candle Lit Dinner

This is one of the most romantic dinner dates I had with my Pangga: a big bowl of mushroom soup to warm our tummies(top); Chicken Inasal as our main course(middle); sodas to help us swallow; and a candle lit dinner for two. Thank you very much rotational power failures, this was I can say “good timing” =)).the night was so young and so does us so im still craving for more and our soup is so big it still has about 2 more cups so i ordered squid tips(bottom) and an extra rice and another round of conversations.

Before this dinner, we had a stroll in the city, bought candles and flowers for the event the next day, it was Pangga’s parents’ 35th wedding anniversary. Then, its dinner time and I asked her that we will dine in this place and she agreed since she wanted me to experience dinning here. there was about two occasions that my GF and here friends dined here, since in here in Manila, she shared about it thru pictures. No more drooling in the pictures,i said to myself, at last I dined here and I *burp* out loud

Food Trip # 66 : @ Persimmon Bakeshope and Fast Food

Baked Siopao

Persimmon's famous product. i was first heard about this was last January 2010. when i came there at that time, they said that baked siopao is only served from 2pm onwards until supply last. so i promised that ill just drop by soon.every time i go and buy, the supply ran out. sadly i came home to Manila without even tasting it. thus when i came to CDO again (april 2010), it was a return with a vengeance and it was a success, thus this entry.

the siopao is similar to bola-bola flavored steamed siopao, what makes this flavorful was the crust that makes it have a little crunch. ketchup is the only sauce. I guess the brown siopao sauce will make this better.
