Notche Buena

My Girlfriend's sister did this "Crema de Fruta" for their Notche Buena :)

I admire her sister's hands and craft in terms of baking & cooking. I can see that this is trully made of Love and Compassion for the family. I admit, i haven't seen her nor tasted her dishes but this photo is a living proof that she is a good - if not a best - home baker & homemaker :)

and this is their Notche Buena table,

that lechon covered (out of sight) the other dishes: Carbonara, Crema de fruta, and Fish cheviche and lumpia :)

I just wished I am there to join them in celebrating the Christmas... hmm, Someday I will be :"x

Have a great Sunday to all :)

Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to all :)

Pinoy Street Food #9: Letchon (Roasted Pig)

as i mentioned on my past blog entry prelude to Pinoy Street Food I will make a blog entries regarding "pinoy street foods" and I will create the succeeding entries in this meme so do please visit every friday and the Food Friday Meme

Young (less than a year) pig Roasted on a pit of Charcoals.

Its Holidays once again. Who says that Ham is the star of the notche buena feast? Its the letchon who is the star not only on notche buena but to all kind of pinoy feast.

Letchon is so pricey that only the selected few can buy it whole. For some, they buy whole if they feeding many foodies. So, many people can't buy it. even if they can, they cannot consume the whole pig. Thus, merchants now sell it on "per kilo" - or a fraction of it - basis so that many families can enjoy it and for people on the budget, they can buy even a small amount just for them to taste it on this holiday season. For this stand, they sell it for 350 pesos per kilogram (w/ or w/o bones). The head is more expensive. Letchon only becomes a street food during holidays.

Party host serve it as its or they cook it as stew (localy called letchon paksiw) or they replace the pork ingrident with lecthon.

They say that Letchon Cebu is the most delicius varaiety in the country. hmm,? I wonder how does it taste like. i hope i can buy/eat even a few just to taste it.

Letchon is not limited to pigs, we have cows and chickens. you see it on the up comming entries so pls do visit again.

Happy Holidays :)

ABC Wed R3 : the letter "W"

W is for
Wind Turbine

This windmill farm is located at Bangui, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. The farm has 20 windmills, each has about 24 stories high and produces a total of 25 Megawatts of electricity enough to power 40% of the province. It is along the coastline, thus, being there is breathtakingly amazing. Engineers decided to put up the farm there since the place is not prone to typhoons and the northwesterly winds are strong.

To get there. Take a bus or a plane in Manila to Laoag. Its better to hire a van from Laoag City to go there, this will take about 45 min to reach the farm. Public commuting is possible but you will make almost a kilometer hike from the national road to the farm.

Have a great Wednesday to all...Happy Holidays :)

Usually served with shrimp paste, this food is one of the well known street foods. In our province, people have a choice of condiments for the fruit - you can either go with salt, shrimp paste, or spicy vinegar. This photo was taken in Rizal Park last August 09.

Litratong Pinoy # 36 : Eksayted (Excited)

Taste My Cooking # 05 : La.Pi.S # 25 : SiLog

button6

Pu-Si-Log

That stands for PUsit – SInangaag – itLOG (fried dried squid, fried rice & fried egg).

Probably you are asking “where is the egg”. Well, Im not into runny eggs so I hate sunny side-ups & soft boiled eggs. What I done here is I fried first the dried squid, set aside. On the same pan and oil I fried the slightly beaten egg until well done, sliced it thinly, set aside. On the same pan and oil, sautéed garlic bits until brown then stir-fried the rice and sliced egg.

Oh, dear!!!!!!!!!! I really miss my loving atebunz and her danggit. This should have been dang-si-log :(

Have a great Sunday to all :)

Made of eggs, flour, sugar and milk (powdered or evaporated) and water. Others add a few drops of yellow food coloring for that butter yellow color effect. They add/spread some margarine and dip in sugar on both sides before serving. It is a big hit for the kids. I was once into this food, too! =)

La.Pi.S #23: Stuffed

button6

This I my stuffed Squid.

Every time I bring some squid in our home in Manila from La Union. I boil it first then I freeze it overnight so that it would be spoiled during travel.

I usually cook squid as stir fried on sautéed garlic, onions, ginger and tomatoes. But this dish Is different. Since the squid is already been pre-boiled. I just stuffed it with sautéed ground pork. Then back in the pan to re-heat the squid. Darn! If we only have sizzling plate :(

I first stir fried the ground meat to remove excess oil until brown, then set aside. Sauté garlic, onions, tomatoes, and sliced chili fingers, stir in the meat until done. Season with ground black pepper, cayenne powder (optional), liquid seasoning and letchon sauce. Stuff it on squid. Fry on pan or sizzling plate a minute per side. Slice the top of squid.

Have a great Sunday to all :)

Visit me more often and I will do the same :) Have a maLasang Pinoy Sunday to all :) :x :*

Pork cracklings made of pork skin or pork skin w/ meat.

Doing this takes alot of hardwork. first, they will boil pork skins, then let it dry in the sun then they will deep fry it. sometimes, some producers hand to dry it again then deep fry it again until they get that popped effect.

Litratong Pinoy # 33 : Kinagisnan (upbringing)

button6

Two-Tone Ice Cream!

This is my well loved Ice Cream

My favorite ice cream flavor is “double Dutch”. The presence of cashew nuts, marshmallows and choco chips is heaven to me. It’s Vanilla ice cream base compliments the choco syrup.

I love this brand more than the competition simply because this brand uses my equally loved chocolate brand in the United States. This tub serves two flavors in one. See how it two-tone colors compliments each other, it’s like piano keys isn’t it?

I have two (2) ways to enjoy this ice cream.

First, I use it as a filling to a bun or sliced bread.

Second, I make a float.

Have a great Sunday to all :)

Pinoy Street Food #3: Balot

as i mentioned on my past blog entry prelude to Pinoy Street Food I will make a blog entries regarding "pinoy street foods" and I will create the succeeding entries in this meme so do please visit every friday and the Food Friday Meme

Balot is a boiled fertilized eggs of duck. producers use a makeshift "x-ray machine" which is made of wooden box with a lighted bulb inside and a small hole. they will place the fertilized egg in that hole to see the embryo's size. if its small, its good for balot. if its too big, they will let it hatch. if none, they will still boil it but it will be called "penoy".

Litratong Pinoy # 32 : Maalala Mo Kaya (do you remember)
