ABC Wed R5 : the letter "Q"

Q is for
Quencher

every time i go to our local market, i always come across to this small store. it displays all kinds of drinks - from soft drinks(soda) to powdered juices.

To add more to my amazement, they even sell alcoholic beverages like brandy, gin, vodka and beer, BUT they are not displaying it like these bottles, not only because of limited space but because they don't want the kids to see those alcoholic drinks on display.

seeing this store really makes me thirsty for a bottle of cola.

Have a Great Wednesday to all of us :D

La.Pi.S. # 72 : Tomato

button6

KBL
Kamatis, Bagoong at Lasona
Tomato, Fish Paste & Onions

The first time i heard about KBL is the abbreviation for a well known political party here in the Philippines.

But in Ilocos Region, KBL is also a well known dip. alam nyo naman ang pinoy, mahilig sa sawsawan and this is the Ilocano's favorite dip. Lasona is the Ilocano word for Onions. the Ilocos native onions are those smaller ones - about the size of cherry tomato - than the ordinary. some people call it small onions or shallots.

other peple prefer to use shrimp fry paste (bagoong alamang). they even add chili pepper too.

this is good if not the best dip for: green mangoes; grilled or fried fish or meat.

for this photo, we cant see the effect of the fish paste since its all ready at the bottom - sorry, i forgot to use a transparent bowl for this. i also added spring onions for added color and taste.

as i said last entry (LaPiS # 71 : Potato) i used this KBL to dip our daing na bangus. i tried to dip the potato fries and its good too :D

ABC Wed R5 : the letter "P"

P is for
Peanuts
Arachis hypogaea

Filipinos are fond of eating peanuts. on my recent trip in Cagayan de Oro City, they have this flavored or spiced peanuts. it comes in different flavors and spices and on this photo is my favorite of all flavors.

what i do love most on these peanuts is that, these are baked - thus its not greasy - and not too salty.

Scenic Sunday # 68 : Forest Lake en Cielo

Scenic Sunday

Laid to Rest

my Father was laid to rest here in this memorial park last 05th of March 2007. i wont be able to visit his place this year due to typhoons that struck the country. this memorial park is in the northern province of La Union, my father's home province.

this photo is taken 01st of November 2008. the park is beside a mountain slope. my position is on the top most elevation of the park. thus the bottom part of the photo is not a leveled ground but a slope. there is another slope after the road with parked cars. then its a leveled ground where graves are placed (those with tents and people). the top most part of the photo is not clouds but sea. the sun's ray glared in the water thus its white. in between the park and the sea is a road/highway then a town's Cemetery then the beach.

every 1st day of November, Filipinos go home to their respective hometowns and visit their departed love ones and we call this day as "all saints day". for others who cant visit the memorial parks/cemeteries. we offer a lighted candles and prayers for the dead.

Halloween is also an event here but "trick or treating" is not as grand as other countries but gaining popularity. costume completions and costume parties are also gaining its popularity and demand. other establishments decorates their places with spooky ornaments and the likes.

Food Trip # 26 : Fruity Desserts

AND

Sweets from mySweet

sunday night is family dinner night at my GF's house, and let me share to you the desserts on that feasty night.

the 1st dish is here.
the 2nd dish is here.
the 3rd dish is here.
the 4th dish is here.

three weeks ago (09 October 2009) i presented to you what we had for sunday dinner (30 August 2009) when i visited my pangga's home. if you can still recall my entry last week (23 October 2009) was my share on the spread. and for this week's entry, let me present to you the desserts made by mySweet pangga.

as i said last week, me and myGF agreed to have a share on this dinner - ill cook one dish and she will make the desserts. and here are her share which she made the night before (saturday) so that she can chill it overnight for the next day (sunday)

she and her family call this "knox" taken from the brand name of the most important ingredient - yes! the unflavored gelatin. she mixed all ingredients - fruit cocktail, cream and condensed milk - then she dissolved the unflavored gelatin and simmered it. mixed in the fruit salad and let it set on the fridge overnight. and its looks like cathedral windows when set.

she made a new batch of fruit salad but this time, without the gelatin, and let it chilled overnight.

the next day (sunday), after visiting the Divine Mercy Shrine in El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental, her parents seen a stall selling coconuts, and bought about 6 pieces. when we arrived, the first 3 became drinks (coconut juice) for our lunch and the remaining 3 went to her fruit salad thus it became buco salad instantly.

wow! that dinner is so superb! lami kaayo (so yummy)!!!
