Weekend Eating # 04 : Siomai Mami at Chowking

I have a meeting with my brothers in the community of CFC Singles for Christ. I left home about an hour early so that I can still take the benefit of the remaining sunlight before it gets too dark at night. Since I arrived early, I have some time to have a quick eat for dinner. I ordered Siomai Mami.

While sipping the soup, a brother and his GF came and they joined me in having dinner. after that, talked awhile and he escorted his lady back in her dorm then came back to this place and waited for the remaining brothers who came after a few minutes.

Chicken BBQ

May I ask, in your own opinion, whats the difference between "Chicken Inasal" and "Chicken BBQ"?

It was my GF's sister's wedding day. After the usual morning greetings with GF, she shared to me that they forgot to bring with them in the bridal suite some items. I volunteered myself that since im free at that time, ill be the one who will buy those things. Shyly she agreed. from the hotel im staying at, I went to Robinsons Place Cagayan de Oro to buy those stuff then I delivered it to her. but since she is so busy to get it, i entrusted it to her brother.

then i went back to my hotel, stayed for a while then went out to eat lunch. Barkadahan Grill is the most nearest grill and since i haven't tried to dine there, i excitedly went in. here come the problem, it took me more time standing and staring at the menu on top of the counter. whats the difference between "Chicken Inasal" and "Chicken BBQ" i asked myself. since i cant decide what to eat between the two dishes, i ordered the chicken BBQ since i already have an idea what chicken inasal taste like.

after eating my dish, i can now answer my own question. the difference of BBQ to Inasal is, Inasal has lemongrass, the tang of the lemongrass really makes the inasal more yummier than BBQ. do you agree with me?

Food Trip # 92 : @ Steve's Grill House

On stick

We - me and GF and her family - dined at Steve's for many times. This photo is the latest. This dinner was the biggest crowd since nearly all of GF's family at the father side are present, a mini reunion is taking place. Before this dinner, we are all met in the church for the rehearsal of GF's sister's wedding then went to the bridal shop for the fitting of dresses and then this dinner.

As usual, I ordered the chicken breast-wing part (middle) and GF change her usual to pork BBQ (right) and I asked her to order the chorizo too (left) so that I can taste a piece.

All Day Breakfast

After i brought my GF to the jeepney stand, I proceeded here to have breakfast. This is an all-day breakfast menu. They have about four variants to choose from and ill just feature one for this entry.

I chose pancake over French toast; scrambled eggs over sunny side-up; and Hungarian sausage as cold cut viand. They also have bacon, corned beef and many more. Drip coffee comes for additional payment.

French Toast

After I bring my GF to the Jeepney Terminal for her to go to work, I went to Mom's Corner to have breakfast. Since I miss eating french toast, which it was ages since the last one. I ordered this one plus a cup of coffee. It has 3 small sliced papaya for garnish and a sliced butter on top and it comes with a flowing maple syrup. Its taste more like pancake than of toast.

Food Trip # 89 : @ Lighthouse Restaurant

Buffet Snacks

It's another day to meet my GF at work. From their house, I hitch a ride from her parents, with us are their two grandchildren. I planned to go to the Provincial Capitol first before I go to our meeting place. To my surprise, we reached the city proper without asking me where will they drop me off. GF's father drove us to Gaisano City Mall then said "lets have a snacks first".

"ill buy some groceries and rice" GF's mother added.

We all went to this place, Lighthouse restaurant. GF's mother handed us the wooden plates covered with banana leaves and the utensils. Me and the kids feasted to the table. They have lots of dishes offered, but I only crave for lumpia thus I got all kinds of Lumpia: fresh, shanghai and fried ubod. I also added Empanada. I want to have a tapioca salad but I saved it to last but GF's mother did not enjoyed the salad thus I did not dared to taste it. I forgot if the glass of Ice Tea is part of the meal(payment) or sold separately but we all had a small glass but not refillable. We just asked water after our heavy meal.

BTW, this resto also offers buffet Breakfast; Lunch and; Dinner. Even the nearby restos all offer the same buffet sets and all of them is all worth tasting and dinning for.

I miss eating beef brisket stew. For me, what makes beef brisket so yummy are: its melt-in-your-mouth soft beef chunks; thick, rich sauce with its right amount of sweetness and saltiness; and the most important thing is, when this is paired with garlic fried rice.

Empanada

Me and girlfriend left their house without having a snack. When we reached Ateneo de Cagayan she told me that she wanted to eat at Cecil’s and she wanted me to taste the cassava cake which she always order. For this series, I'll feature all we tried and tasted.

What I do like in Empanadas is its filling. This bread is somehow, a meal of its own: its bread is the carbo; and the filling is the viand. I can say that this Empanada of Cecil's although small, it has a big yummy taste. Its crunchy and it doesn't have that oily taste.

Cassava Cake

Me and girlfriend left their house without having a snack. When we reached Ateneo de Cagayan she told me that she wanted to eat at Cecil’s and she wanted me to taste the cassava cake which she always order. For this series, I'll feature all we tried and tasted.

I admit, I'm not into cassava cake. BUT this cassava cake is far better than the first I tasted. Before, all cassava cakes I tried had this strings or threads which is I know, is a part of cassava. This cake of Cecil's has less of that thus this makes it "melt-in-your-mouth" feel.
