La.Pi.S # 50 : pearlySHELLS

Sea Urchins are aboundant in La Union, more particularly in the town of Balaoan. The said town has a dedicated culture site, yup! is a fish pen for sea urchins.

i don't like this seafood. its too salty for me, its like drinking sea water. we just simmer this on boiling water for about 5 minutes and crack its shell with a knife. its pearly roe is the most prized one and the most delicious part.

Photo(s) herein is/are captured using Canon Powershot A580 last 24th of May 2009 at the Bacnotan Public Market, Bacnotan, La Union.

Have a great day ka-Lasang-Pinoy :D

kisses

Oooppsss...I think it's best to dunk it with real vinegar with plus plus on it. Really takes away a bit of the salty taste. Try it.

When I was in college and we went to Miag-ao, Iloilo for zoology field trip, my teacher ate this raw...sarap na sarap sya! I tasted it, but I could not take it! Maybe it is an acquired taste.

I remember the time when I was in Camotes. We rose up early coz we knew it was low tide, and people were harvesting sea urchins. They were eating them on the sea shore. They were so sweet and fresh and yummy!
