As I mentioned on my past blog entry prelude to Pinoy Street Food I will make a blog entries regarding "pinoy street foods" and I will create the succeeding entries in this meme so do please visit every Friday and the Food Friday Meme.
While me & my sister ShutterHappy Jenn is taking a walk on Colon St in Cebu City, we found this very unique food cart. He sells shellfish which they call Saang. I never thought that this shellfish is a big hit on that street. I usually see this shellfish as a shell handicraft for home displays.
A stick cost 5 pesos but if you want to eat the meat from that shell, it would cost you much (i forgot the price, 20 pesos i think). The merchant will wack the shell with a hammer and give the meat to you with a dip of spiced vinegar. I admit i never tasted this because Im worried to have an upset tummy (i do have sometimes i eat shellfish thus i only eat shellfish at home not during travels/tour), but my sister said its so good.
wow at last, after hours in Wikipedia, i searched for it's name: it is Conch. the one who has spikes at the opening is Spider Conch
All photos herein are captured by ShutterHappy Jenn using Canon Powershot A1000is in Colon St. Cebu City, Cebu last 18 of February 2009.
Have a Great Friday to all of us Food Friday Diners :D

Is this available whole year round??? Because were planning to visit colon street this march 1 and we don't know if these vendors are only there during Christmas season. We just watched this on tv and we would like to try this delicacy and the "grill lane" in colon. Please answer my inquiries. Thank you!

1) all seafood specialy shellfish are available if in-season. if theres a catch they will sell.
2) these are available in Colon St corner osmena blvd near Chowking AT NIGHT time. best to be there at around 6pm to 8pm to get its freshness.
