Litratong Pinoy # 116 : Gusto/Ginusto (want/wanted)

Buko Halo-halo

INTRO

Last January 9, 2010, i attended a friend's wedding in Cagayan de Oro City. MyGF and her mother had their hair and make-up done, me and myGF's dad is in their car cruising around the city to get his Barong (Filipinos most formal male garment) we came across to this one very inviting billboard sign.

i immediately forgot my manners in exclaiming "wow! they serve ostrich, i want to try that". her dad agreed and promised "you want that? tomorrow lets have our dinner there".

the next day, true to his words, her dad instructed myGF for us to meet them in Cusina de Oro after their tennis game. me and my GF had our mall tour first then we proceeded to the said resto and before we come inside, i took that photo.

for this last installment, but definitely not the last since i do plan do visit Cusina de Oro again, is this very awesome dessert.

My GF's dad really love fresh coconuts. be it for drinks and for dessert. he always have this for dessert.

its a fresh coconut shell, meat intact, filled with halo-halo mix topped w/ shaved ice; a scoop of ice cream and breakfast cereals (corn flakes i guess) and lots of milk.

daghan salamat to myGF and to her family for this awesome 'first ostrich' experience. dinning with you will always be a pleasure. busog kaayo ko *burp* :D until my next visit.

Cakes and Coffee

As a coffeeholic and chocoholic, I really love this moment of enjoying a hot mug of coffee and a serving of chocolate pastry.

One time when I was in Cagayan de Oro City, I stayed on the coffee shop while waiting for my Girlfriend from her gym workout. That coffee shop has many cake stand lined up full of very tempting cake slices, pies and cookies. After a few sips of my coffee, I really can’t resist of having a cake slice. I approached the counter and ordered for a moist chocolate cake, which sits on this very elegant counter display. I waited for a few minutes and the waitress served my order on a stoneware dessert plate.

I ate my cake a teaspoon at a time, enjoying every bite of it. After a few more minutes, my phone rang upon receiving a text message from my Girlfriend informing me that she is coming over to see me. I replied to her that ill just be the one to pick her up on the gym. I placed back my phone on my bag and to my dismay upon seeing my camera; I forgot to take a photo of this heavenly experience.

From this experience, I formulated of this plan. My Girlfriend’s family also loves cakes and coffee. My plan is to buy a cake, then upon reaching on their home, we will brew coffee and let the conversation going while setting the table with coffee cups and mugs. I hope on this moment we can get to know each other more and better. I hope that this plan will come true sooner that I prayed for.

Me and my Shirts

I'm a kind of person who is so meticulous about my clothes. I don’t want shirt designed to give loud statements. Every time I go to the mall, I see people wear has this kind of personalized t-shirts that has loud and offensive statements. I love to wear shirts that is plain and simple or with geometric figures or stripes. Call it "out-fashioned" but still simple is elegant. I prefer to wear shirts and jeans and hiking sandals.

When you go check my shirts on my cabinet, you can see more of these customized t-shirts. Souvenir shirts from travels that has prints about the place and Conference shirts that I attended to which has designs similar to a motivational posters.

Lately, I realized that my wardrobe must now have a major overhaul or a makeover. Scouting in the mall for new shirts is very frustrating. Now only of the price but also of its designs and its size. Now I had this idea, to have a customized t-shirts to be it more personalized.

I didn't had the chance to buy souvenir shirts due limited stock of extra large sized shirts (XL). They have XL but the design doesn’t suit for my taste. That is why I this idea to have a personalized t-shirts. Ill submit a photo of the design of what I have and in just minutes I have a new shirt that suites me. I can even have environmental issues themed shirts like Save the Gulf t-shirts to call awareness of oil spill damage.

Isn’t it great idea? What do you think?

Scenic Sunday # 106 : Divisoria Monuments 4 of 4

Scenic Sunday

Magsaysay Monument
Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental, Philippines

One famous landmark in Cagayan de Oro City is the place called "divisoria". Divisoria got its name, from what i heard and read, from the word 'divider'. that place became a divider when a huge fire razed the place. but now, that said divider is somewhat a big center island for the streets of T. Neri and R.Abejuela.

Divisoria is where people meet, to dine, to shop or just passing by to and from work or home. Every friday and saturday nights, the entire place becomes a huge market place, commonly called "divisoria night market". its has shoes, bags, apparel, food & drinks, and other merchandises.

appart from its people, commodities and sights, there is 7 unnoticeable landmarks that divisoria had. these are: an amphitheater - which is under renovation; a tourism office; a big gazebo called "Kiosko"- for events that needs a stage; and four (4) heroes monuments.

my entry will focus on these monuments which for me, makes Divisoria more scenic.

this is the monument for Ramon Magsaysay, the past President of the Philippines.

Sizzling Ostrich ala Pobre

for the next 5 weeks starting June 02, 2010 ill be sharing to you our meals on this resto. next week for the last installment, ill share my GF's dad's yummy dessert. for now, ill share my meal.

fourth dish is 'Sizzling Ostrich ala Pobre'. the reason why we ate here in Cusina de Oro. sorry for a low quality photo. as i viewed it on my camera, it looks good but when i uploaded it on the PC this is the result. the veggies got all the pampering of clarity.

'ala pobre' means "simple sauce'. commonly, its sauce is like a runny gravy or a runny oyster sauce. as i said last week ill feature what i ordered in this resto and its big than its seems. we are about 6 in the group and we all had a filling share. its priced per plate and per plate has a serving of buttered veggies. Since its for the group, again, im too shy to take its photo for a longer period. even thou that they are willing for me to take pictures and to take time, still the shyness in me. besides, this dish should not sit on its plate, its should be on our tummies where it really belong =))

as for the taste, many says its like chicken since its a poultry meat but for what i tasted is its like beef. its similar to ' bistek tagalog'. the marinade or seasonings or the way it cooked masked the true taste of poultry. the best way to describe it is by saying 'ill definitely come again'.

third dish is 'Ostrich BBQ'. sorry for a low quality photo. as i viewed it on my camera, it looks good but when i uploaded it on the PC, to my shock its not that good. here's the story.

this meal is not mine but for my GF's sister. when this was served, i immediately took its photo. im so ashamed to let her wait to eat this tasty dish. so after about 3 photos, the best photo was this :( i really promised myself that ill go back to Cusina de Oro for a vengeance. speaking of which, i hope ill be there again sooner than i prayed for.

as for the taste. well, sadly, since its not mine, i haven't tasted it. i cant remember if she shared the last bite or not BUT nevertheless, ill share to you my ostrich meal next week. a meal really fits for my "serving size" preference. but for now, this meal is priced per stick and every plate has a serving of atchara (pickled papaya) a great compliment to any grilled meat.

Litratong Pinoy # 114 : Dismaya (dismay; discourage)

BAWAL!!!

in English :

" forbidden "

isn't it dismaying that in life many are forbidden. you cannot do what you please; you still have to adjust to the merriment of other people. what more disheartening to it is the fact that you did not only adjusted but you also be called "Kill Joy" or simply "KJ"

when i was on board a bus going to the Manila Airport - im going to Cagayan de Oro City - i noticed that all air-con buses bound to south Luzon have this warning sign on their door(s). when i finally got its message, i immediately draw out my camera and that photo is the result. =))

i am wondering why it is forbidden to sell steamed corn-in-a-cob and boiled eggs inside the bus. after awhile i was laughing into agreement. its true, eating corn and eggs are not only messy but also it has a dismaying smell before and after eating.

well, i hope you already know what i'm up to. if you don't, just be thankful that no one sells boiled sweet-potatoes inside the bus =))
