The first time i tasted this heavenly Pastel was on 17 of February 2008 at Clark Field, Pampanga. it was given to me by my friend - and now my girlfriend - as a pasalubong from her home Cagayan de Oro City when we met there. from that instant i tasted it, i fallen in love to it, most specially to the one who gave it, thoughfulness makes my heart melt and thats one of the reason why i fell inlove to her and courted her.
Pastel is a product of Camiguin Province, in its capital town Mambajao. it comes on 2 sized boxes: 6pieces (as featured); and a 1 doz piece box. each piece sell about 10 pesos so a box of 6 cost 60 pesos and a box of 12 cost 120pesos. some merchants add some mark-up so it will have an additional of 5 to 20 pesos per box.
It is a bun - yes similar to a dinner roll - and filled with yummy yema inside. ohhh so yummy. heaven melts in your mouth goodness :D the yema filling is standard and if you want to request for another filling, it is made to order a week before pick-up time. other filling includes: guava, pineapple, strawberry, chocolate and more, just say it in advance so that they can make your request. I just dont know their minimum order.
after that, she gave me again this year last 20th of February as a gift and pasalubong narin. during our conference her friend asked my share of rosquillos and i happily gave it to her since i dont like it. and she asked me why and my girlfriend said to my rescue "he only eats pastel" :D ohh, i love you honey :D :x :*
My sister Sugarplumfairy_lyn has a friend in an inter island vessel whom she met during her OJT on that same vessel. she asked that friend to buy for her pastel since she too loves it. upon reaching home, she teased me by showing her 2 1doz boxes. well sorry sister BREADy or not ill eat your pastel =))

I haven't tasted this yet but I see them on some stalls selling delicacies from different provinces. I'd buy some next time. Well, thanks to the pastel bread, it added some more reason to fall in love w/ your girlfriend. :)
